  • The standard corporate income tax rate in Lithuania is 15%. This rate applies to all business entities, including cryptocurrency businesses.

  • Cryptocurrency companies are subject to a 15% profit tax, but smaller companies with fewer than ten employees and a total annual turnover of less than €300,000 may qualify for a reduced corporate tax rate of 0-5%.

SOCIAL SECURITY AND HEALTH INSURANCE

  • Employees working for cryptocurrency companies in Lithuania are required to pay social insurance. The employee contribution rate is 19.5%.

  • Employers are required to pay additional contributions at a rate of approximately 1.77% to 3.03% depending on a number of factors, including the nature of the job.

VAT

  • VAT on Cryptocurrencies: The purchase and exchange of cryptocurrencies is generally exempt from VAT under European Union guidelines and court rulings that treat cryptocurrencies as a form of payment rather than goods or services.

  • VAT on Services: The provision of certain cryptocurrency-related services, such as consulting and exchange services, may be subject to VAT at the standard rate of 21%. However, specific conditions and exemptions may apply, depending on the nature of the services provided.

  • For individuals, income derived from cryptocurrency activities, such as trading or mining, is subject to personal income tax.

  • Tax rates are applied on a progressive basis, with a tax rate of 20% on annual income up to EUR 120,000 and 32% on income above this threshold.

RECORD KEEPING AND REPORTING

  • Cryptocurrency companies must file an annual corporate tax return with the Lithuanian State Tax Inspectorate (STI). The deadline for filing is the 15th day of the sixth month following the end of the tax year.
